    Hi Petko,

I will ask on the MT5 forum as well.

But maybe it is time to try the new Ducascopy data on MT4!

Shame though, because this will put all my FX Blue analysis out of whack.

Thanks Petko, a video on this would be great 🙂

Another question – when choosing which strategies to remove from the live account, should I look at the FX Blue statistics for the live, or the demo?

For instance, for a twelve-day period, I am looking at the statistics for one EA on the M15 timeframe that has the following results in the demo:

    Trades : 9
    Gross profit : 19.25
    Gross loss : -6.60
    Net profit : 12.65
    Profit factor : 2.92

And the following results in the live account:

    Trades : 4
    Gross profit : 5.48
    Gross loss : -6.60
    Net profit : -1.12
    Profit factor : 0.83

If my rules were three trades minimum, and minimum 1.2 Profit factor, Demo account says I should use the EA, but live says I should remove it?

    Cheers,
    Simon

Another question, how many days should I allow for the trades to sync?

I’m currently swapping out failing EAs for profiting ones every three days or so, maybe this is not enough time to let them sync?

On a side note, I have read that a common risk/reward ratio is 1:2, or profit target being twice the stop loss, but the results I get from the Reactor suggest that the reverse can be safer/more profitable – stop-loss being twice the take-profit.

That way, price is more likely to hit your TP before it hits your SL, and you can move on to the next opportunity.

When I see a chart that has a lot of open trades on it, I don’t like it when I see how many Stop-losses price has to move through to get to a Take-profit.

Conversely, it’s always good to see that price is going to hit a lot of TPs before any SLs get hit.

    Hi Petko,

Would links to your courses be considered external links?

It might explain why my reply to the post “Which is your favorite online trading course from the Forex Academy?” didn’t show up?

    Thanks Petko, that makes sense.

I’ll keep an eye on it, hopefully they will sync.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the reply Richard,

I can confirm that the correct EAs are running on the correct charts and time-frames, on separate copies of MT5, both are demo accounts running on the same server, the mT5s are running simultaneously on the same VPS.

After re-filtering FX Blue and checking the MT5 demo accounts this morning, five or six EAs for USDJPY are showing no losses in one demo account, but show losses in the other.

    Hi Petko,

I am trying to find the posts I have made and threads I started, so that I can go over some of the info on them, do you know where they might be stored? Somewhere in my profile?

    Thanks,

    Simon

    This is fantastic news!

Big thanks to Miroslav and his team for providing this for us, and for free… wow! 🙂

Can I ask if it is recommended to only use Dukascopy as a broker for this data, or if it can be used with other brokers?

    Cheers,
    Simon

    Hi Bigknd,

For some reason, refreshing the navigator does not work in my copy of MT5. Perhaps it is something to do with the broker.

In any case, anyone with the issue of laborious compiling now has two solutions to try.

    Hi MeryJonesTexas,

Yes, I should have been more clear, sorry.

For me, I think it would be a good thing to have just for general peace of mind, and I do like the idea of added security when working online.

I will set one up and let you know how I get on!

On another note, I looked at Contabo, and they offer a much better service than the one I was previously using, which is great, because the two PCs I bought recently are nearly maxing out because of generating lots of strategies with EA Studio, so I’m thinking once again about using a VPS for running the Metatraders.

    Hi Petko,

Contabo offer just a VPS I think, which is useful, but I am considering a VPN, which allows you to protect your local internet connection from anyone looking at your online activity, such as hackers, government, and twelve-year-old coding experts!! :-O

I am still reading up on it, but my understanding so far is that you can use a remote IP address for all your online activity, whatever you do on your machine at home, the data travels through a protected data “tunnel” to the VPN server, and from there it is encrypted before it gets sent to the destination of your choice, in our case, the brokers server. The encryption prevents anyone seeing the data, or tracing the communication back to your machine and being able to hack into it and see everything in there.

When I finally go live, I would like the peace of mind that my data (and money) are not easily up for grabs.

I wonder if all the routing to different servers etc would have a knock-on effect with things like trade executions though, hence my question asking if anyone has experience with a VPN and trading.

    Cheers,

    Simon

Thanks Petko, I have several strategies that need recalculating this way I think!

When would you get rid of a strategy entirely?

Some strategies just need a little time to perform well, but others just do terribly, what criteria would determine that a strategy just be deleted?

A PC can only handle a particular number of instances of MetaTrader, so it seems like a good idea to know when to free up space by getting rid of bad strategies?

    Thanks Roman,

I’ve been playing around with the Portfolio tool, and it is certainly very useful 🙂

    I’m rethinking my workflow.

    Cheers!
